Left to right: Cecil (Welcome To Night Vale), Setsuna (Sailor Moon), Integra (Hellsing).
Setsuna is half Japanese and half Romani, according to her creator. Integra's mother is implied to be from India in the TV series, and she's at least ambiguously brown in the manga. Both are consistently portrayed as darker/tanner than the Japanese and/or white characters around them.
Cecil barely has any canon visual characteristics at all, let alone a canon race; I just happen to draw him somewhere in the light-brown range. And when there's an actual white person drawn with him, you'd think the contrast would be obvious.
Thus this portrayal of my fanon Cecil, commiserating with two other characters whose skin tone sometimes just doesn't register with people.
